On May 30, 2018, City staff made a presentation to Council Members regarding Public Safety budget goals for FY 2019. The presentation was riddled with errors and misrepresentations. As a public service and to set the record straight the San Antonio Police Officers Association went through the document, line-by-line and corrected it. We found they underreported the crime rate and calls for service, misrepresented Cadet graduation and attrition rates, failed take into account officer retirements as they attempted to show a reduction in officer vacancies, and most importantly, misreported the number of actual officers on the street. Read the document for yourself and then contact the mayor and your city council member and tell them to invest in police officers, recruitment, and public safety policies to prevent crime and reduce call response time.
